hi BL. i've read your guide and everything is still jargon to me. i haven't bought any dvd burner yet but the one that i have in mind is this: LITE-ON iHAS124-04 S-ATA DVD Burner 24x
now will this drive actually work? and is this particular section the steps i need to follow for xgd3?
"C. For Flashed iHAS and Cross-Flashed DVD Burner"?
If its a liteon iHAS 124-04 B drive then its easy to flash. (Must be revision B, not C) Here this YouTube video shows a flash performed on a laptop. He uses a power adaptor with molex connection and a USB-Pro However if you are connecting the drive to your PC then you don't need any of the equipment he is using and can proceed to flash using this tutorial. So forget about all the fancy connections he is using and install your drive to your desktop PC, then follow the tutorial from the point he names his first folder. He also powers of the drive twice during the tutorial and this I can assure you is not necessary when its connected to a PC. All software links are listed there also Link below www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQqwjiSOh7c
hey quick question.. i burn xgd3 with mkm 003 and lite on ihas 524b flashed drive i burn with opc on at x4 with force hypertuning on and smartburn on...rest all off so since the new tomb raider came out its xgd2...so can i use the same settings to burn xgd2? with opc on @ x4 with a verbatim?? also do i have to clear opc history evrytime i burn ? i only cleared it once
I would have no options set, (smart burn, force hyper tuning, overspeed writing and online hyper tuning all not ticked)
I would un-tick perform opc before write and un-tick enable burn proof
Make sure the ISO is on your main drive (I put mine on my desktop)
Run a defrag once your ISO is on your main drive (i run a complete defrag about 3 times, each time the defrag will get faster) Open task manager and make sure the CPU and disc drive is running below 10 percent load.(5 percent is more ideal) Turn off all background programs you don't need to be running to help lower the load
Burn at 4X and always clear OPC before write.(its not selected but it helps the write)
Don't forget the iHAS drives have media learn and the burn improves each time you copy the iso so if you get a bad burn do the above again. I find smart burn (which uses different write strategies to try to perfect the burn) is only useful on cheaper media like A-ONE discs . If your using this media then select smart burn and force hyper tuning (latest version of imgburn will always prompt you to use these settings before each write. If your using verbatim discs select NO but if your using A-ONE discs select yes)
I get perfect burns on the above settings with XGD2 and XGD3 burns with no need to change the settings. (Until media learn got it right i must have had about 30 in-perfect burns but playable) Its the price you pay for perfection!

wow..ok man thanx a lot i will clear the opc and try with my current settings..if that dosent work then i shall follow yours..... the thing is i have only 19 verbatims left..and i had it imported from US..the last batch i guess..so if im out of the discs...then im out of discs forever...
Whatever you do defrag your drive(once the ISO is on your desktop) and open task manager to make sure your pc is running below 10 percent load, before you burn
is it installed to your PC? if not it will say on the drive (as shown in the youtube video link i gave previously a few posts back) if it is open imgburn and it will tell you Look at the image below it says ATAPI iHAS324 B
UPDATE: just noticed you have not bought it yet, just ask when you buy it and if they cant tell you ask to see the drive, (if its rev B it will say it on the drive next to the model number)

Because your copying from the hard drive you want your drive to be as optimal as possible. This ensures a smoother write, it also helps to lower PC load as any programs running in the background will run better with less problems.
